LEED® Credits

Thermafiber products contribute to LEED® v2009 and  LEED® v4 credits

At Thermafiber, high recycled content in our mineral wool tells just part of our green story with a minimum recycled content of  70%. Add to that thermal and acoustical performance and durability of our material so our products contribute to several LEED credits.

LEED 2009 Credits Guide

Energy & Atmosphere Credit 1: Optimize Energy Performance

Thermafiber mineral wool helps to minimize the amount of energy needed to heat and cool a building, resulting in reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Materials & Resources Credits 2: Construction Waste Management

Thermafiber insulation products can be diverted from the waste stream by removing undamaged material and re-installing it in new projects.

Materials & Resources Credits 3: Materials Reuse

Thermafiber insulation can be removed from demolition projects and reused in new construction.

Materials & Resources Credits 4: Recycled Materials

With a minimum 70% recycled content, Thermafiber offers the highest recycled content of any glass fiber or mineral wool insulation.

Materials & Resources Credits 5: Regional Materials

Thermafiber’s strategic location in Indiana places it within 500 miles of major cities throughout the Midwest and eastern United States, including Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Nashville, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.

Manufacturing Location:
3711 Mill Street
Wabash, Indiana 46992

Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 7, 7.1: Thermal Comfort

The high r-value (3.7-4.2 per inch of thickness) contributes to the building occupants thermal comfort.

Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 9: Enhanced Acoustical Performance

Thermafiber sound attenuation products absorb sound passing between partition walls and floor/ceiling applications. In wall assemblies, our products help provide sound transmission coefficients (STCs) that improve indoor environmental quality.

LEED® v4

LEED v4 was finalized in 2013 and is the newest set of performance standards for ceritfying the design and construction of commercial, institutional and high-rise multifamily residential buildings. The rating system includes:  new construction, core & shell, schools, retail, data centers, warehouse and distribution cetners, hospitality, and healthcare. For a complete breakdown of the LEED v4 credits that Thermafiber contributes to, click on the link below

LEED v4 Credits Guide

Thermafiber has contributed LEED credits to several high-profile projects, including the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. (Silver LEED rating) and Bank of America in New York City (seeking Platinum LEED rating).
